What is black pepper?

Black pepper is one of the most commonly used spices in the world. It’s also one of only two spices that feature in all of our Chilli No. 5 collections. The other spice is, unsurprisingly, chilli.

Black pepper is made from ground peppercorns which come from the Piper nigrum vine. Its sharp flavour adds a kick to all dishes and without it, it’s our reckoning that many great chefs would be lost.

What are the health benefits of Black Pepper?

But black pepper is more than just an integral part of kitchen condiments. It has also for years been considered as a medicinal property due to its high content of plant antioxidant compounds such as piperine. Piperine has been linked to reducing inflammation, delaying premature aging and helping to prevent heart disease.

Other black pepper health benefits include helping to reduce symptoms related to degenerative brain conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, improving blood sugar metabolism and reducing cholesterol levels.

Often called the spice of life, black pepper benefits also include the ability to slow down the replication of cancer cells in various studies.
